Guatemala Update: The trip is officially underway!

Kelly shares some of the group’s experiences and activities in Guatemala.

Today we had a walking tour of Antigua. We visited convents, churches, government buildings, city parks, and ancient ruins. Lunch was in the park. We sampled some of the local food stands. Everyone loved the pupusas!

The afternoon was free for exploration to discover the intricacies of this adorable city including cafes, parks, book stores, artisan markets, jade jewelry stores, and even a view of the volcanoes.

In the evening, we saw a procession from Jocotanengo in preparation for Semana Santa (Easter). This unbelievable Catholic tradition encompassed the entire city. We watched from 5th Avenue to La Merced Church. Dust carpets, monks in purple robes, shrines to Jesus and Mary, and various saints were carried throughout the city.
