Guatemala

Partner Village: Ceylan, located at the base of Vulcan Fuego in Esquintla Province, Guatemala.

Relationship: TVC has been working with the community in Ceylan for many years. We have been supporting a food and medical distribution program for the elderly and malnourished and provided eco-water filters and wood saving stoves from day one. We recently completed construction on 6 classrooms to serve the overflowing population of the area. After conducting a community needs assessment, we realized that several other projects were needed. We have since opened a vocational skills training center for the women in the village complete with 10 new sewing machines, materials, and training sessions. We are in the process of   creating a park, playground, and picnic/garden area for the families in the village. This land was donated by the community.

Current Needs: We are in the process of raising money for 6 new classrooms and a block of latrines for the local school in Ceylan. Land has recently been purchased and construction will begin once funding is secured. We always need monthly funding to help with our elderly and malnourished food/medicine distribution program. This is one of our favorite and most needed programs in Guatemala. Eco-water filters and wood saving stoves are a constant need in the community.

Classroom: $12,000 each

Monthly Food/Medicine Distribution Program Cost: $600

Eco-water filter: $150

Wood Saving stove: $300

Partner Village: San Miguel Duenas, located on the outskirts of Antigua,Guatemala

Relationship: TVC has been supporting an organization in this village that operates a library, after-school program, and computer school in the small town. We have helped to stock the library, upkeep the facility, provide nutritious food to the children, and cultivate donors through our tourism program. We recently built three new homes in the area for families that are desperately in need of a stable, protective roof over their heads. These families are all part of the organization’s afterschool program.

Current Needs: We would like to build more homes for families in need in San Miguel Duenas. These families are migrant coffee working families and need shelter throughout the year. There are many families on the waiting list for one of these homes.

Home: $2,000 each
