Haiti

Partner Village: Jacmel, located on the coast in Southern Haiti.

Relationship: TVC has been working in Haiti since the 2010 earthquake hit the cities of Port-au-Prince, Fondwa, and Jacmel. We have installed solar paneled streetlights in the IDP Camps to help protect women and children at night and provide more consistent security in
general. We have rebuilt the University of Fondwa by providing 6 shipping containers that were turned into mobile classrooms, labs, and offices. We have planted over 1,000 trees in Fondwa to try to prevent erosion. We have funded an income-generating mosaic art business for a street kid’s organization and installed a library at their center.

Current Needs: The street children’s center supports over 100 children by providing for their school fees, supplies, healthcare needs, vocational skills training, and food. They also provide housing for families of the children when needed. The center has moved buildings twice attempting to find a safe environment for the children conducive to learning. They would like to purchase their own land and build their own center instead of renting from building that are not appropriate for the children.

Purchase of land and building of new center: $100,000
Support of additional vocational skills training programs including photography, painting, mosaic, etc – $15,000
