Main Trip Inclusions: All accommodations, airport transfers, meals as listed, private vehicle and driver, Nakuru Safari and park fees, coordination of volunteer activities, roundtrip flight to Lamu, sunset dhow cruise, walking tour of Lamu, sailing trip on Hippo Dhow, yoga sessions as listed, tips, and all bank/wire processing fees.

Post Trip Lamu Relaxation Extension Inclusions: All accommodations, airport transfers, meals as listed, services of local guide, tips, and all bank/wire processing fees.

Itinerary

Pre-Trip Masai Mara Safari:

Jan. 30 – Arrive to Nairobi. Meet Village Experience representative and transfer to Tune Hotel for overnight.

Jan. 31 – Morning departure for the Masai Mara National Reserve. Check into Sekenani Camp in time for late lunch. Afternoon game drive. Enjoy sundowners by the bonfire as you wait for dinner. (B,L,D)

Feb. 1 – All day safari to go in search of the Big Five – Elephant, Lion, Leopard, Buffalo, and Rhino. Enjoy a packed lunch by the Mara River. Return to camp for dinner and overnight. (B,L,D)

Feb. 2 – Early morning game drive. Drive to Nairobi after breakfast to meet the group and check back into Tune Hotel. (B)

Main Trip:

Feb. 2 – Arrive to Nairobi. TVE representative will meet you at the airport and transfer you to Tune Hotel for overnight.

Feb. 3 – Meet the group for breakfast at 8am. Depart by 9am for Lake Nakuru. Arrive in time for lunch and relaxation by the pool. Afternoon game drive to spot rhino, buffalo, lion, leopard, giraffe, zebra, and much more. Dinner and overnight at Lake Nakuru Lodge. (B,L,D)

Feb. 4 – Early morning game drive. Depart for Mbita after breakfast. Relax and get settled into your new surroundings at Wayando Eco Lodge…right on the shores of Lake Victoria. Meet The Village Experience team in the evening over drinks. Dinner and overnight at lodge. (B,D)

Feb. 5 & 6 – Morning Yoga Sessions in the garden. Volunteer with the Live Long Self Help Women’s Group in the community on these days. Spend one day helping to build a new home for a much deserving woman and her family in the village. Spend the other day at the Primary School getting to know the kids and doing some yearly maintenance to the school – think painting classrooms, repairing the playground, replastering the concrete floors, etc. You will also have a chance to visit the Community Center, which houses the cyber café and tailoring program. Return to lodge in the afternoons. (B,D)

Feb. 7 – Morning yoga session in the garden. Departure for Nairobi after breakfast. Stop along the way for lunch. Check into Tune Hotel for overnight. (B)

Feb. 8 –Depart to airport in the morning for flight to Lamu. Transfer via Pamoja Boat to Shela Village. Check into Swahili style house. Evening sunset dhow trip on board Hippo Dhow, complete with Swahili snacks, to welcome you to the island. (B)

Feb. 9 – Morning Yoga Session. Enjoy a walking tour of the UNESCO World Heritage City of Lamu after breakfast. Return to Shela Village for a free afternoon to explore the beach, swim in the ocean, lounge at the house, or venture over to the Majlis Resort to enjoy the pool and bar. (B)

Feb. 10 – Service day with Safari Doctors. We’ll get hands-on in one of their partner villages – a new women’s center is being built in Kiangwe, a new medical outpost is under construction in Mtangawanda, and much more is on the horizon. Enjoy lunch in the village. Return to Shela Village in the afternoon. Sunset yoga class. (B,L)

Feb. 11 – Morning Yoga Session. Enjoy a sail around the channel on Hippo Dhow complete with an amazing fish bbq on the boat. Swim, walk on the white sand beaches, read a book on the dhow, or take a deep breath and simply relax. Farewell dinner in the evening. (B,L,D)

Feb. 12 – Morning Yoga Session. Airport transfers provided throughout the day via Pamoja Boat. (B)

Post Trip Lamu Relaxation Extension:

Feb. 12 – Continue your stay in Lamu with free time to read, write, practice yoga, swim, and relax. (B)

Feb. 13, 14, 15 – Free days. Many optional tours can also be planned including fishing, sailing, exploring other villages and islands, snorkeling, and more. (B)

Feb. 16 – Airport transfers provided throughout the day via Pamoja Boat. (B)

Vaccinations

Visit the Center for Disease Control website for up-to-date requirements (www.cdc.gov) and/or speak with a local travel doctor regarding vaccinations.

We also advise that you speak with your doctor regarding a prescription for an antibiotic to combat food and water borne illnesses.
