Haiti 2011: Day 7
Today, we sadly left Jacmel. Jacmel had become home… and we didn’t want to leave. There was still so much more to see and do, so many more people to meet, so many rocks left unturned.
We began the drive back to Port au Prince and made a few stops along the way. The first was at a local Rum Distillery. We enjoyed a picnic lunch, a tour of the facility by the owner, and a rum tasting. This was a highly energetic and entertaining tour! From there, we proceeded on to meet Einstein Albert and his local artisans. This group makes wonderful bowls out of sustainable obeche wood and sells products to the likes of Macys and Donna Karan. The group watched a demonstration, toured the handicraft center, and purchased their own bowls to take home.
After checking back into our hotel and freshening up, the group went to a great farewell dinner at Quartier Latin and then onto dancing at Presse Café.
It was a sad goodbye the next morning, but many promises of returning soon!
