News from Haiti: Kelly and Amy’s Haitian Adventure Day 2
On Sunday, we hit the ground running bright and early. We started by visiting Architecture for Humanity to discuss possible ideas for the upcoming permanent housing project we’re working on in Jacmel. We then proceeded to Grassroots United Headquarters to see some of these housing prototypes. We also visited the only Ubershelter in Haiti courtesy of our friend Rafael and Genesis. Amy and I are energized by all the creative and innovative ideas taking shape to deal with overwhelming problems here in Haiti.
Next, was a stop at Artists for Peace and Justice to learn about their programs and see their brand new secondary school. We then spent time with the woman who heads up Fairwinds Trading in Haiti. Natalie works one-on-one with artisans and helps to connect them to a U.S. market. Haitian products are being sold by Macy’s, Anthropologie, Ralph Lauren, and Donna Karen, and hopefully soon…The Village Experience!
After a morning of meetings, we inspected more hotels and found several great options for our future groups. We also took a run through a few restaurants in the area to find possible places for Welcome and Farewell Dinners. Very impressed with what we found. We ended the evening with a great meeting with our future ground operator. Lots to talk about late into the evening…
